The opening balance account is the mirror image of the opening balance because it represents the total amount of assets, liabilities, and equity that a company has at the beginning of a new accounting period. The opening balance account is used to carry forward the balances from the previous period, ensuring that the financial statements remain accurate and balanced. By recording the opening balance in a separate account, it allows for easy tracking and reconciliation of the company's financial position from one period to the next. **
